One of the chemical properties of graphite is its resistance to high temperatures, up to 3000 degrees in an inert atmosphere. It is corrosion inhibitor, incombustible, inert and antimagnetic.

Main uses of graphite

Here are some of the main uses of graphite:

Thermal insulation. For this process, carbon and graphite felts are used, thus ensuring resistance to high temperatures as a coating in heat treatment furnaces and autoclaves.

Graphite crucibles. Are used to prepare different types of pieces that ensure excellent finishes.

Fluxing tubes for degassing. Graphite fluxing tubes inject gases into the molten material such as aluminum, copper and its alloys to clean the metal from slag.

Melting and metallurgy. Graphite electrodes generate an electric arc and high temperatures for steel production, among others. Seals. Through the manufacture of mechanical seals, fluid containment and equipment lubrication is ensured.

Lubrication. It is one of the uses of graphite that ensure the precision, operation and performance of multiple machines in various industries.

In addition, graphite is used in processes such as electrolysis, electroerosion, electroplating, among others.

  • Jewelry industry: it is used for casting gold and silver.
  • Chemical industry: For the manufacture of heat spare parts, chemical corrosion resistant mechanical seals, piping, pump impellers, paint and pigment manufacturing.
  • Steel industry: Used for the manufacture of steel in electric arc furnaces.
  • Metallurgical industry: Developed for the smelting of non-ferrous metals, such as copper, aluminum, among others.
  • Lubricant industry: Graphite is used as a solid powder, ensuring the lubrication of metal parts.
